Do you have a business biography? If you don’t, you are missing out on lots of opportunities.

We live in a content hungry world. There are thousands if not millions of websites that accept guest blogs and podcasters. Not to mention speaking and media opportunities where you can share your expertise with the world.

If you have a business biography ready, you are more likely to be able to take advantage of these exciting opportunities to grow your audience.

You can also use your biography on your website, in some of your marketing collateral and on any white papers, e-books, or lead magnets you create. You can also use it when you pitch an idea to the press or apply for a speaking or teaching role. A good professional headshot or lifestyle shot is also vital.

Your biography should let the reader know who you are, where you come from, and how you help people. It is a good idea to have a one or two line one, a two paragraphs and a three to four paragraph biography which you can use for different things.

An excellent biography will help establish your expertise and credibility. This, in turn, will get your audience to know, like, and trust you better.

Here are some tips on how to write a good one.

Remember to include the basics

Current job and professional experience. You should also include any relevant qualifications, accolades or awards. Your educational background and any professional organisations you are a member of but only if it’s relevant. Any publications you have featured in or presentations you have done. Last but not least, how people can contact you!

Make sure you grab people’s attention

Ensure you have an attention-grabbing first line. Try and introduce yourself in a way that makes the reader want to learn more.

Write it in the third person

Most professional biographies are written in the third person using ‘he’ she’ instead of ‘I.’ Writing in the third person make the reader think you are an expert and they are more likely to trust it.

Add something unique

Don’t make it too formal add some detail about your family or a hobby that you love doing. No one wants to read something too formal or stuffy.

Update it frequently

Make sure you update your bio regularly. It’s an excellent opportunity to share your expertise with a wider audience. So if you have won a new award or been featured in the media, add it to your biography.

A professional biography is a great way to build your brand and get people to know you better. Entrepreneurs and businesses need a way to stand out from the crowd.

Draft a biography and use it as an opportunity to share your expertise, some interesting facts about yourself and don’t be afraid to inject your personality into it too.

Get a friend, partner, or colleague to check it and start sharing it with the world. Once you set the intention to grow your audience, the rest should follow.
